Sports massage is suitable for professional athletes and everyone else, regardless of the patient’s age. It’s based on classical massage and tailored to meet each customer’s individual needs. Massage improves metabolism and blood circulation of the muscle tissue, relaxes your muscles and alleviates muscle pain. It is also a great way to relieve stress, maintain muscle performance, and prevent injuries and aches. When treating athletes, we always take into consideration different phases of the training season as well as possible previous injuries, focus on muscle groups which are important to specific sports, and use mobilization and movement enhancing techniques as needed. A sports massage therapist must have a deep understanding of how the body reacts to physical exertion.
Sports massage can be roughly divided into maintenance, recovery and preparatory massage. Maintenance treatment is used, for example, when we need to enhance the elasticity of a muscle, soften the scar tissue of a muscle, or improve the range of motion of a joint. The timing is important, especially during competitive season. It is more common off season, but it can also be done during the competitive season if needed. Recovery massage helps the body to recover after physical performance. This treatment can be done immediately after physical performance, but, depending on the intensity of the performance, it may be more useful after a few days. Recovery treatment is a good way for athletes to improve their performance all year round. Preparatory massage is a treatment which is done right before performance or warm-up. It is often a lot shorter than maintenance or recovery massage.
These days, sports massage and body care are almost crucial for professional athletes and people who exercise regularly. Sports massage plays an important role in preventing and treating injuries, and helps the body to recover.
